Volunteer with us

Our volunteers are the backbone of 'Healing Homes'.  Without them and you we cannot help those that need us. ​​Our volunteers come from a diverse background and we welcome everyone.  You may be out of work, retired, or just have some spare time that you'd like to use to help others.  Our volunteers help in the homes of Cancer patients and their family.  You may be asked to vacuum and mop floors, load the dishwasher, put fresh sheets on the bed, the list is exhaustive.  Each client has a support plan in place before you visit listing the specific tasks they will need help with.  We provide a free cleaning service only.                                                               

 

Once you have been approved as volunteer you will receive your 'Healing Homes Volunteer Pack' by email (Be sure to check your spam folder).  This pack contains all the information you will need as a volunteer with 'Healing Homes'. Along with cleaning products you will also receive a supply of PPE.  This has been donated so there is no cost to you.

Included in your online pack is:

  • The do's and do not's of Volunteering including our 'Code of Conduct' and Confidentiality Guidelines.

  • Health and Safety for you and our clients

  • Cross Contamination Protocols and Guidelines 

  • Our Standards and Guidelines

  • Concerns and Complaints Procedure

  • Cleaning for Cancer 101

You'll also have access to our Volunteer only pages where you can update your personal information, availability and time spent volunteering.  We are in the process of setting up a forum where you will be able connect with other 'Healing Homes' volunteers.

Becoming a volunteer is enjoyable and can provide you with purpose and belonging within our community.  It truly is a rewarding experience!!!! We look forward to welcoming you as a 'SUPERSTAR VOLUNTEER'.

 

Before applying to volunteer please read the information below:

​

  • You must be willing to have a Ministry of Justice and Police check.  There is no cost to you for this. 

  • You must be able to wear appropriate PPE when needed (provided to you through 'Healing Homes').  Our clients are recovering from surgery or treatment and / or are in active treatment for Cancer. This makes them very vulnerable to infections and illness. 

  • You will need references that will be checked.

This may seem like we are asking for a lot of information but we are committed to the health and well being of our volunteers, clients and their Whanua.  All of the information you provide is confidential in line with our 'Confidentiality Code'
